Sacramento 10th Anniversary

April 17, 2005

 Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Organization of Chinese Americans, Greater Sacramento Chapter (OCA-GSC), I respectfully invite you to be a sponsor at our annual Dragon Boat Festival (DBF) Fundraising Banquet on Saturday, May 7, 2005 in Sacramento, CA.  We will be celebrating our tenth anniversary this year since the Chapter’s inception in 1995.  Please see attached for the official invitation.

OCA-GSC is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization dedicated to promote civic participation and secure social justice for all Chinese Americans and Asian Pacific Islander Americans in our community. We are one of the 88 chapters and affiliates of the National Organization of Chinese Americans, the only Chinese American civil rights organization that maintains its headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Dragon Boat Festival has been for centuries an occasion for ethnic Chinese all over the world to honor Qu Yuan, an advocate of the rights of the common people.  This festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Lunar Calendar, a date which often falls on the month of May. OCA-GSC has selected May, which is also Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, to host our annual fundraising event. Proceeds from the event are used to support Sacramento Chinese schools, scholarships for local Asian Pacific Islander American students seeking higher education, OCA National’s summer internship program in Washington D. C., as well as civic and cultural activities that benefit our community.

To highlight the event, we honor outstanding pioneering Chinese Americans by recognizing their professions as well as their contributions to the Greater Sacramento community.  Our past honorees included Chinese community advocates and leaders, politicians, WWII veterans, educators, firefighters and peace officers, business entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and Chinese owned supermarkets and their founders.  In addition, we also invite keynote speakers who are role models and leaders in the Asian Pacific Islander affairs. Last year, the Honorable John Chiang, Member of the California Board of Equalization delivered a heartwarming and inspiring speech to more than 375 attendees.

We would be pleased and honored if you would help us celebrate our Tenth Anniversary by being our 2005 Event Sponsor. We look forward to receiving your sponsorship.

 Respectfully yours,
